How to not get blacklisted

blacklist

Psalms 15 (The Message)

1 God, who gets invited to dinner at your place?
How do we get on your guest list?

2 “Walk straight,
act right,
tell the truth.

3-4 “Don’t hurt your friend,
don’t blame your neighbor;
despise the despicable.

5 “Keep your word even when it costs you,
make an honest living,
never take a bribe.”You’ll never get
blacklisted
if you live like this.”

I just took the time to catch up on a bit of Bible reading, and first reading Romans 13 and then Psalms 15 you have to be amazed at how close they are together.

Romans 13 is on how to be a good citizen, meaning that you must obey the laws of your government due to the fact that all governments are under God.

Then reading Psalms 15 handling more moral laws, and doing the right thing.

The two passages ties up very nicely for me in the way that if you would be the person that would obey your government laws, you would naturally be the kind of person that would obey these moral laws, hopefully.

I want to challenge everyone reading this, and myself, to start keeping our words, always. Not forgetting about something we promised for convenience sake, and start living the Christ like life we were called to.

Straight and Narrow

Train me God, to walk straight; then I’ll follow your true path. Put me together, one heart and mind; then, undivided, I’ll worship in joyful fear. Psalms 86:11

Yesterday I had a bit of bloggers block, again, and really just couldn’t get anything to blog about, but after the happenings the last 24 hours within our church, I just got this great relief when I read this scripture.

The last time I read this, I was very focussed on worship more than anything else, but pondering on this scripture over the last day, the first part really started to stand out.

This just again tells me, that even when we try our hardest within ourselves, there will just be no way that we will be able to keep to the straight and narrow. We need to get God in on this journey we are on, and even if we are the biggest ‘Christians’ out there, you will not be without temptation to do something that you might be very disappointed about later on.

Surrender

Psalms 1 (The Message)

How well God must like you— you don’t hang out at Sin Saloon, you don’t slink along Dead-End Road,
you don’t go to Smart-Mouth College.

Instead you thrill to God‘s Word,
you chew on Scripture day and night.
You’re a tree replanted in Eden,
bearing fresh fruit every month,
Never dropping a leaf,
always in blossom.

You’re not at all like the wicked,
who are mere windblown dust—
Without defense in court,
unfit company for innocent people.

God charts the road you take.
The road they take is Skid Row.

I simply love this last verse, ‘God charts the road you take’.

The reason for loving it, is that I see that as the ultimate position in life. When you don’t try to do it on your own anymore, but just let God take over en care for you.

At what point in time do you reach that point? To really surrender everything, and to stop worrying about money, food, or anything else for that matter.

I finally reached a point at my job that I surrendered, and it made a world of difference. I can smile again in the mornings when I get up, I can do my job with a good attitude.

BUT (and this is a big but)

What will it take, for my sinful nature to take over again? What situation must satan throw at me, to make me not focus on God in everything that I do, and start to do it on my own again?

I know this will come again, if I don’t guard against this each and every day. I must arm myself with the weapons that the Lord gives us to ward of the attacks of the enemy, each and every day, and not just when I feel like it.

Tell me, how you guys do this, and how you protect yourself from the attacks of the enemy.
