I am struggling a bit with putting this into practice.
A friend told me last week that I am to her love, in the way that I interact with other people and such, but for me it is not so. I tend to struggle sometimes to rather not make a sarcastic comment, because it might hurt someone, and yes, I fail quite a bit at this.
I also know part of my calling in this world, and by the way, it is part of yours as well, is to show God’s love to the people around you.
Now, I have this other friend that finds it impossible to find God in his life lately, and every time I have some kind of conversation with him around this, it simply breaks my heart that I am not able to show him God’s love.
So how does one do it?
It seems to me that every time I try to show love deliberately, I fail big, but if I don’t think about it, somebody comes and tell me stuff like I told you before.
This is just one incident like this, and I sometimes loose heart myself because I am unable to help this friend of mine, which I struggle to handle.
So, how does one show love deliberately?

Coenraad, its plain and simple! You are not here to try to show love to others. We sometimes make the mistake of thinking that the new Commandment is to Love God with your whole heart, soul etc and to love your neighbour as yourself.
The disciples asked Jesus what was the most important commandment of the LAW. That commandment Jesus quoted from Deutoronomy! John 13:34 Jesus said “A New commandment I give unto you, that you love your neighbour AS I HAVE LOVED YOU” The original text in the Hebrew and greek says “so that; in order that” you love your neighbour as I have loved you.
The only true commandment is us believing in the Son, and by believing and having relationship can we bear fruit in our lives.
John 1:4 “In Him was the LIFE, and the LIFE was the Light of men” The only “real” kind of love you can show people is the Godly love pouring out from your spirit!
It’s a spontaneous radiance of God’s power manifesting in your life, and calling out to others! If you try on your own its not going to have that authentic persuasion that the Love of God has over people.
The only thing you can do is to saturate yourself with the Love of God by being in an intimate relationship with Him, the rest will follow! God just wants to live through you. Let go off the pressure of you trying to love people and just enjoy God. The outflow of that will radically impact people as it already did!
Jacques, I hear you, BUT! Yes, we need to focus on God and His love for us, but we can not sit back and watch other people go through struggles, which they can not cope with on their own, and just say, they need to saturate themselves with God's love.
We have a responsibility to show love to others, be that we need to go visit them in prison, or give them water when they are thirsty, or show them love when they are themselves unable to experience God's love on their own. This is not in the way that I really wanted tangible options of loving this specific person, but that I sometimes struggle to keep focussing on God's love myself, when I see people struggling like that and simply not be open to any effort from anybody to reach out to them. It is sometimes a difficult place to be.
As you say on John 13:34, is this not simply an extension of Matthew 22? If you love God with all your heart, you WILL inadvertently love people like Jesus loves us, it will just happen and yes, by no means of ourselves will we be able to show that love, but we MUST love our neighbours, and love is a decision. It doesn't just happen.
I think I didn’t express my statement fully. Everything you just said is included in what I meant!
The idea of showing God’s love must be born out of relationship otherwise we are just doing nice things and nice works
like many good samaritans out there. Now DONT get me wrong! Its great to help those in need ALWAYS! But when we do it out of inspiration of the Holy Spirit and with the help from God, is when the Godly Love starts pouring out from us and convincing people of His existence. Otherwise many people, just keep on going as they already did, and just say thank you, you are nice…
When WE are saturated by God’s Love, firstly He gives us the desire to go and show love by serving and helping those who can’t help themselves.
Secondly, His love radiates from within us and calls out to those when you aren’t even aware of it. When I say the commandment Is done away with it doesn’t mean now can just focus on ourselves and just help whenever we want to. A person who is demon possessed doesn’t need 10 lessons or 2 lessons on how to behave like a devil! WE are HOLY SPIRIT Possesed! The same power that conqured the grave lives in me and you! We know pretty well what we are supposed to do, but out of what conviction do we do it: Obligation or Inspiration?
The thing is God removed all the pressure of the LAW and in the Kingdom it has a great effect on the works we do. Because something done out obligation is never done with the brilliance and passion as something out of inspiration!
Hope you understand what I mean now!
Jesus Blessings!
I understand what you are trying to say, and I agree wholeheartedly.
