Worship?

But the time is coming-it has, in fact, come-when what you’re called will not matter and where you go to worship will not matter.
“It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship.
God is sheer being itself-Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.”

John 4:23-24

worshipOK, so this is a post that has been brewing inside of me for quite some time, as this is a topic very close to my heart, but I did not know what to say about the topic.

This is a challenge that God has placed on my life, to worship Him through everything that I do, and boy, is it hard.

I find though that people have very different views on what worship is, and what it should be, so let us have a bit of a discussion around this.

Please place a comment as to what you see and experience worship to be, as it would be great to be able to get a bit of overview as the opinions and experiences out there.

Found this piece of scripture, concerning fasting and worship.

    And the challenge is out…

    Isaiah 58

    ” The people complain,
‘Why do we fast and you don’t look our way?
Why do we humble ourselves and you don’t even notice?’

    3-5“Well, here’s why:

“The bottom line on your ‘fast days’ is profit.
You drive your employees much too hard.
You fast, but at the same time you bicker and fight.

You fast, but you swing a mean fist.
The kind of fasting you do won’t get your prayers off the ground.
Do you think this is the kind of fast day I’m after:
A day to show off humility?
To put on a pious long face and parade around solemnly in black?
Do you call that fasting, a fast day that I, God, would like?

6-9“This is the kind of fast day I’m after:
To break the chains of injustice,
Get rid of exploitation in the workplace,
    Free the oppressed,
    Cancel debts.
What I’m interested in seeing you do is:
Sharing your food with the hungry,
Inviting the homeless poor into your homes,
Putting clothes on the shivering ill-clad,
Being available to your own families.
Do this and the lights will turn on,
And your lives will turn around at once.
Your righteousness will pave your way.
The God of glory will secure your passage.
Then when you pray, God will answer.
You’ll call out for help – And I’ll say, ‘Here I am.’

I love the explanation for the word worship (new testament) in the Strong's dictionary: "meaning to kiss, like a dog licking his master's hand". Have you ever noticed how most dogs are always glad to see their masters? They run to greet you, and for a minute the most important thing in their lives is the act of greeting their masters and showing them what a joy it is to be in their presence. Most cats, on the other hand, tend to only give people their attention when they feel like it. (mostly when they want something from them). I think that we tend to be "cat-christians". We give God our attention only when we want something or when we feel like it. If we don't feel like praying or going to church, we let God wait in vain for our attention.
Let's be like dogs, and make our Master the most importaint Being in our lives.
