The first comment made in the above mentioned blog post shows me the problem with the church. They strive for numbers of people, rather than to stretch people, and justify it by saying that you must make everybody feel comfortable.
May I never sit in church or home church, and feel comfortable in my life. I want to be challenged constantly, and face the attacks, with the help of God!
My brother owns a night club/restaurant /pub. We often go there , mainly to support him , and sometimes because he has some very good artists performing there live. There is however alcohol, and therefore it is quite a sinful place. The last time we were there I started chatting to a guy, mostly because our line of work was integrated with each other. I cant remember how, but I happened to mention something about God, and Christianity and I could immediately sense he was open for this discussion. We became friends and I found he was quite lonely, but filled his gap in his life by frequenting these places.
He is a friend on facebook, and recently he announced to the whole Facebook community that he has given his life to the Lord, and publicly asked forgiveness for everyone he hurt in his life.
This made it clear to me- the challenge is not to save the guy thats already in the church, but to get out of the comfort zone and spread the gospel in the places of sin.Its so easy for us to sit on the sideline and judge/critisize about someone thats drunk/gay/angry/whatever, but how often do we actually take the trouble to find out why he is like that, why do people sometimes seem distant.
95% of the time, its rooted in something of his past, there must be an issue. We all have some issues, but I would like to sum up servanthood in 3 attitudes:
1. Stretcher bearing attitude
The men who carried the lame man to a top of a roof, made a hole in the roof, lowered him down through this roof on ropes.all this while balancing the man on his stretcher- not an easy task…they were servants. The attitude- bringing people to Jesus that cant get to Him out of their own
2. 1 meter attitude
If you are far away watching from a distance we make the wrong conclusions/perceptions. Nobdy wanted to come near the man with leprosy but jesus showed them that coming within touching distance, He healed him.
3. Cleansing feet attitude.
To serve..not to just be served. Go down to your knees. the word says: ” if you go down on your knees , I shall lift you up.
I have made it my challenge to serve to the community of Soshanguve/Ga-rankuwa, satan has tried to stop it, but I am now more determined than ever to get out of the comfort zone, stop being fed with word, but to feed it.
Hey there, just stumbled upon your blog through Google, and found it to be really informative. I’m gonna keep an eye on this one. Cheers!
